Since announcing her run for Senate, Amy McGrath’s campaign has been a gaffe-filled, flip-flopping attempt to mask her bold claim that she is the most progressive person in Kentucky. Because of her gaffes, even Democrats are left wondering who Amy McGrath really is.
Amy McGrath Opposed, Supported, And Opposed Justice Kavanaugh’s Nomination
Good Day Kentucky: “U.S. Senate candidate Amy McGrath has flip-flopped on her stance on whether she would’ve voted to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court after getting a lot of backlash on social media by liberals and conservatives.”
CNN: “McGrath’s multiple stances on Kavanaugh’s confirmation — first critical in 2018, then saying Wednesday that she would ‘probably’ have voted to confirm him, followed by a terse ‘I would have voted no’ statement later Wednesday — lay bare the challenges that face a Democrat trying to unseat McConnell in a state President Donald Trump won by 30 points in 2016.”
POLITICO: “McGrath, who announced a challenge to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell this week, tweeted that she would have opposed Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court several hours after she told a local newspaper she probably would have supported him. […] McGrath’s initial support for Kavanaugh on Wednesday was at odds with some of her criticisms during her 2018 House campaign.”
Amy McGrath Supported Impeachment After Saying She Would Oppose It.
Louisville Future: “[…] impeachment would be the wrong course.” (Louisville Future, 7/10/19)
The Lexington Herald-Leader’s Daniel Desrochers: “New statement from McGrath re: impeachment. She still won’t say if she supports the vote on impeachment…” (Twitter, 12/18/19)
Courier Journal: “Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Amy McGrath has come out in support of the House of Representatives impeaching President Donald Trump in a fundraising email sent Thursday. […] ‘last night, the House rightly passed articles of impeachment for trial in the Senate.’ […] The words in the McGrath email sent to supporters across the country — titled ‘ Mitch, the nation is watching what you do” — were clearer than a statement campaign she sent out Wednesday evening” (Louisville Courier Journal, 12/19/19)
Amy McGrath Supported ‘Single Payer’ Government-Run Health Care Before Saying She Would Oppose It.
Courier Journal: “The new spot runs counter to several previous interviews with McGrath in which she spoke favorably about a single-payer system […] When McGrath ran for Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District seat two years ago, she repeatedly said how she favored a single-payer plan, but she didn’t believe it could pass. ‘If we were to start over and have to start over from scratch, say this was 10 years ago — I think we now know that single-payer would be the way to go,’ McGrath told NPR in an August 2018 interview.”
Will Amy McGrath finally own up to being the most progressive liberal in Kentucky tonight? Or will she attempt to hide her extreme liberal credentials while stumbling through another gaffe-filled appearance?
