It has not been a good week for Amy McGrath.

McGrath has been running an inauthentic, extreme campaign for nearly a year, and she is still unattractive to Democratic voters. It’s not surprising that Democrats are looking for a replacement. Just this week Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones, Senator Bernie Sanders, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Amy McGrath’s own hometown paper the Lexington Herald-Leader threw their weight behind Rep. Charles Booker. While her opponents haul in new endorsements, not even Chuck Schumer — who hand-picked McGrath to take on Senator McConnell — is rushing to help her.

Here’s what they’re saying about Amy McGrath’s sputtering campaign:

Lexington Herald-Leader: “Over-coached and easily flustered”

“[McGrath] sometimes seems over-coached and easily flustered, as seen in her early campaign missteps when she said she would have voted for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, then backtracked hours later amid the public furor.”

“In addition, she hedges on any criticism of President Donald Trump, which is an understandable campaign tactic in a state that mostly admires him, but not one that impresses Democrats and not one that will serve her well in the Senate.”

“Charles Booker is the only one generating real excitement among young people and old.”

Roll Call: Democrats split over choice to challenge McConnell

Roll Call: “Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez endorsed Democratic Kentucky Senate candidate Charles Booker on Tuesday, breaking with the party’s senatorial committee on the best choice to challenge Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.”

  • Bernie Sanders: “As Louisville has become an epicenter of national tragedy and protesters due to the police murders of Breonna Taylor and David McAtee, Charles has shown leadership by showing up on the frontlines.”
  • Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: “Charles Booker (@Booker4KY) is running for Senate & building the kind of principled, inclusive, and winning coalition in Kentucky that can inspire positive change. The US Senate will be a better place with him in it. I’m proud to endorse him.”

WKU NPR: “Charles Booker has been endorsed by two of the nation’s most high-profile progressive politicians in his race for Kentucky’s upcoming U.S. Senate primary.”

Booker Has Support Across Kentucky. McGrath Only Has Chuck Schumer.

Politico: “Booker has already received support from a number of Democrats in Kentucky, including more than a dozen elected officials”
  • Charles Booker on Twitter: “I am humbled to be endorsed by 16 Democratic Reps from all over the state including all 3 members of House leadership and all House members of the Black Caucus.”
  • Charles Booker on Twitter: “This is major! Labor unions and even more Louisville leaders have endorsed our campaign today!”
Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones: “We don’t need people in Washington telling us who should be our candidates in Kentucky.”
  • LEX18: “Booker builds momentum, gets endorsement from Matt Jones”
  • WKYT: “Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones endorses Charles Booker for US Senate”

Former KY-04 Candidate Patti Piatt: “Many of you know that Amy McGrath was very supportive of me and my campaign in 2018. For that I am grateful. I am disappointed in her current platform and I just can’t support her. I am proud to support @Booker4KY”

McGrath’s “campaign is falling to pieces”

Common Dreams: “Progressive Democrat Charles Booker Gains Steam Against ‘Pro-Trump Democrat’ Amy McGrath In Bid To Take Down McConnell”

The Hill: “… momentum is continuing to build for the progressive candidate’s campaign.”

The Intercept’s Ryan Grim: “Amy McGrath’s money might drag her over the finish line, but man her campaign is falling to pieces”
